Recap: Recruiter Roundtable #1
In case you missed our "Recruiter Roundtable" with 4 #recruiters last week, here are the 6 biggest pieces of advice:
#1 - Recruiting is messy behind the scenes. Don't take things personally.
#2 - No one intentionally tries to ghost you. Life gets busy and sometimes candidates slip through the cracks.
#3 - Always follow up but space out your outreach. You should reach out ~3 times before you move to the next person.
#4 - Some companies care about cover letters more than others. If you have a complex story, CLs could be a great way to explain your story.
#5 - A summary section on a resume might be good for career switchers but entry level students/workers should try not to include one.
#6 - Reach out to the right recruiter for that specific role. Don't just reach out to any recruiter at the company, and do your research.

Spotlight Episode - Facebook/Meta Recruiter
In Episode 8 of the Final Round Podcast, Niki Woodall (Product Leadership Recruiter at Facebook/Meta) provides advice on how to get your mind right for the recruiting process. Comparing recruiting to dating, she emphasizes how it’s beneficial to act a little hard to get. Know your worth, be confident, and believe in yourself. The result will come.
*PS - Niki will be one of the panelists at our upcoming “Recruiter Roundtable Event” so be sure to sign up ASAP here!

Keeping Organized During Recruiting Season
Having multiple networking calls or interviews is not a bad problem to have (queue the applause). Nonetheless, keeping track of dates, times, company information, recruiter information, and interview formats can be difficult. That’s why we’re providing you with some of the best practices you can use to stay on top of the must-know info, ace your calls, and receive that dream offer (or perhaps even offers).
Google Calendar and Spreadsheets are your friends
It really is true. Taking advantage of these resources will help keep all your information organized, helping make sure you don’t forget a date, a time, or an interviewer’s information.
Download Google Calendar to keep a schedule of your meeting times. You can also choose to be notified a certain amount of time prior to your interview to give you ample time to prepare. Similarly, a spreadsheet can help you keep track of interviewer/recruiter names, dates/times, and any other important information you may need. It’s the easiest way to keep track of the must-know necessary for having a successful call.
Spend ample time prepping for every interview
Prepare for every interview as if it’s the only one you might have. Take the extra time needed to research company values, recruiter information, and the format of the interview.
Generating bullet points with relevant information and questions will put you one step ahead of the competition, helping differentiate yourself by showing you truly care about the firm. Doing so for every interview will help maximize your chances of an offer.
Don’t be tempted by the first offer
You may be tempted to hop on the first offer you receive. However, be sure to explore all of your options, and take as many interviews as possible before making a commitment to one.
If you find yourself in a position where you’ve received an offer before you’ve had an interview at another firm, you can request some time to think about your decision. The firm doesn’t have to know you have other interviews—just ask for a specific number of days to make your decision. This will help you better weigh all of your options if you receive another offer.
Be yourself
In the last edition of the Knockout Newsletter, we discussed the best ways to project confidence in a professional environment. When going through a call or interview, understand all you did to get there in the first place. You worked hard to develop the experiences. You made the effort to apply or reach out. Know that you’re prepared, and understand it’s just a conversation.
At the end of the day, recruiters or interviewers want you to do well. Make it easier for them to help by staying confident, coming prepared, and letting your personality shine through.
Business Buzz
Shocking results from a recent work from home survey
The onset of the pandemic meant a shift in where and how Americans worked. However, even as the pandemic comes to a close, many Americans are choosing to continue working in a hybrid model or even entirely remote.
Many employers, however, aren’t on board. According to a survey of over 1,000 business leaders, 90% will require employees to return to the office in 2023. The study also found that 88% of employers are offering incentives for their employees to return, from meals to higher salaries. Crazy, right?
A return to a “new normal” allows for another incentive for employers to give: the re-opening of corporate fitness centers. Gyms close to the office are very convenient for workers, and many employers hope they’ll help convince more workers to return to the office.
For many companies, a corporate gym isn’t just a treadmill or some free weights in an empty, used-to-be storage room. Many companies have invested heavily into making the gym experience rival commercial gyms, which tend to come with high monthly dues.
From yoga studios to basketball courts, office gyms have evolved substantially over time. This comes as studies continue to show the impact exercise can have on employee efficiency, satisfaction, and happiness.
Does you company have a workplace gym? If so, do you use it? If you’re looking for a job, is a workplace gym (or gym stipend) a consideration when applying?
